VW ID.3 - Recuperation

If you brake with the ID.3 or the engine brake is applied, the car recovers energy, which charges the battery. This is called recuperation. The amount of energy won hereby is considerable. Recuperation is worthwhile, increases the range and noticeably reduces travel costs. In the display of the car, you can recognize recuperation by the fact that the consumption value in kWh per 100 kilometers (or miles) has a minus sign. For example, if the value is -30 kWh / 100 km, then 30 kWh are recovered per 100 kilometers. Recuperation of course only works when the battery is not completely full and performs better when the battery level is low.

The recuperation is particularly strong in gear B, which I personally always choose. When going downhill, you hardly have to press the brake pedal and will recover a surprising amount of energy. In addition, the brake is also spared.

If the driving assistant holds a speed and you see a reason to stop in front of you (e.g. a red traffic light), you briefly tap the brake. The driver assistant then no longer regulates the speed, the car slows down and recuperates. Of course, you still have to be careful not to crash into something.
